These are photographs I took in and around the neighborhood, where my mom (Patsy), sister (Gemma), brother-in-law (Marc) and I (plus three cats and one rockin' player piano) live.

There is too much interesting architecture in South Amboy to put on one page (and yet I have limited the photos to just what is within three blocks of my house). So I have only included views of South Broadway. North Broadway will be on a new page soon.

South Amboy has two great claims to fame: (1) it is the "Gateway to the Jersey Shore" and (2) at one time, it had more bars per square mile than any other city in the nation. Many of them has closed and have been taken over by other types of businesses.

This is the New Jersey Transit North Jersey Coast Line South Amboy train station. It is thirty miles from Times Square, NYC. It is an express stop on the Coast Line.
Here is my house. My player piano and I live on the 2nd floor. My sister and brother-in-law live on the 1st floor.
Some neighbors' houses a few yards away. This was taken on a Sunday morning.
Headquarters of the Amboy National Bank, which has been here in this building since 1919.
Broadway Bagels. I am in here most mornings at around 7:30am.
Typical commercial buildings along South Broadway. Once is a cellular phone store and the other is a carpet store.
The Broadway Central Cafe--live Jazz club--is in the corner barn-like building. Happening avant-garde place.
Typical South Broadway scene--Sunday morning.
Lagoda's Saloon--a New Jersey legend and institution. It is known statewide. You see, the train used to have to stop right about here to change from an electric engine to diesel. The process took five to ten minutes. Many commuters used to stop in this bar for a quick beer (or something stronger).
Oops! How did this get in here! You should know what this is by now. It was playing "42nd Street."
