The World Trade Center
R.I.P.
1972 - 2001
To all those who have lost their lives or suffered greatly on account
of the heinous destruction of the World Trade Center, I dedicate this simple
personal memorial on September 12, 2001.
This photograph was taken in 1974, only two years after the World Trade
Center had opened. As you can see, much of it was still under construction
at the time. I recall this being a very happy day. It prompted my first
trip to New York City, alone, at the age of 13. Left to right: my father's
1970's yellow Volkswagen station wagon (I forget the model name), my sister
Gemma (age 11 or 12), my mother, Patsy, and Gabe at the age of 13. I always
liked this photo because we're together as a family and for the flock of
birds.
My dad took this photograph on that same day in 1974. I remember that
he was very impressed by the enormity of these buildings and so was I.
If I should find more personal photographs of the World Trade Center,
I will post them.
These photos were taken at a time when one could have a child-like
awe and wonder about certain things and be truly proud of what we were
capable of building. It certainly comes through in these two photographs.
I can only associate the World Trade Center with good memories because
only good things happened to me while I was within the mammoth complex
-- until yesterday. But one day, it will again rise and make people smile
and laugh. Despite it's general banality, it was a delightful complex and
everyone was always quite proud of it.

Della Fave household, please click here. I am posting
this page with no disrespect intended for what has occurred these past
two days, but as a catharsis for myself (and perhaps others).
End.
